In 1969, Toyo Steel made the world’s first seamless steel toolbox in Osaka. More than fifty years on, they still make them the same way — and the Y-350 Hip-Roof is their classic.

The camber-top lid is the defining detail: its gentle arc creates more capacity than the box appears to have, while the flat-folding handle and lockable clasp keep everything neat when closed. Pressed from a single steel plate with no seams and no sharp edges, it’s the kind of object that rewards handling — and won a Good Design Award in 2009 to prove it.
